Governor Scott says sexual harassment training now mandatory for all state employees

first_imgVermont Business Magazine Today, Secretary of Administration Susanne Young issued a directive(link is external) requiring all executive branch employees participate in sexual harassment training classes offered through the State of Vermont Department of Human Resources (DHR). In response to the national dialogue around the prevalence of sexual harassment, Governor Phil Scott called on DHR to review the State’s sexual harassment policies and procedures and recommend any necessary changes. Policies were found to be current and in line with best practices, and the Department identified an opportunity to improve training requirements to increase effectiveness.“What we’ve seen and heard about the prevalence of harassment and assault from many across the country is disappointing, and it is clear we must all take a strong stand against this abuse,” said Gov. Scott. “I appreciate the work of our agency and department leaders in ensuring the state is vigilant in protecting its employees.”The directive requires all state employees to take sexual harassment training, which will be provided by DHR through the Center for Achievement in Public Service (CAPS). The training, Preventing and Addressing Sexual Harassment, is designed to educate state employees on how to identify, prevent, and address sexual harassment issues in the workplace.“Ensuring a safe work environment for all employees is the top priority of our Department, so the Governor’s leadership on this issue is appreciated,” said DHR Commissioner Beth Fastiggi. “We will offer as many courses as necessary to complete this task, and have already scheduled 400 trainings across the State over the next year.”“Everyone in state government, from frontline workers to Cabinet members, has a critical role in maintaining professional and respectful work environments,” stated Susanne Young, Secretary of Administration. “Providing this training to all employees in a classroom setting, rather than online as it is today, will undoubtedly enhance the experience and promote healthy and civil discussions.”This directive to state employees is in addition to requirements for the Governor’s appointed staff to attend training relating to sexual harassment at least annually, as detailed in an updated Executive Code of Ethics(link is external) Governor Scott issued earlier this month.Source: Governor 12.22.2017last_img read more

Grenada general elections set for March 13

first_imgGrenadian Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell Sunday night announced March 13 as the date for new general elections in Grenada.Feb. 20, Nomination DayAddressing a rally of his ruling New National Party (NNP) at the National Stadium in Georgetown, the Grenadian capital, Mitchell told supporters that Nomination Day will be on February 20.In the 2013 general election, the NNP won all 15 seats defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of then prime minister Tillman Thomas.March 13 is historical dateThis will be the second time that a general election will be held on March 13. On the first occasion in 1990, the NDC won seven seats, the Grenada United Labor Party (GULP) four seats. The NNP won two seats, the same as the National Party (NP).March 13, 1979 is also a historic date for Grenada. It was the date  when members of the New Jewel Movement (NJM) headed by the late Maurice Bishop staged the first coup in the English-speaking Caribbean. The coup resulted in the removal of the then prime minister Sir Eric Gairy from office while he was on a visit to the United States.Mitchell confidentMitchell told supporters that he is confident of regaining office in the upcoming general election.Meanwhile, the head of the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Research Services (CADRES), Peter Wickham, is also predicting a victory for the NNP in the upcoming general election.Wickham, a respected regional pollster, told listeners on a radio show in Grenada, that the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which lost the 2013 general election by a 15-nil margin, may find it difficult, if not impossible to overturn such a huge deficit. “The NNP is in pole position. When you come from a situation where you have all the seats it puts you in pole position to win the next election. But I think the NNP challenge now is that they have to be really careful about voter motivation,” he said.last_img read more

Pakistan’s Malik gets permission to travel to England late

first_img(Reuters) – All-rounder Shoaib Malik has been allowed to join the Pakistan squad in England late after spending time with his immediate family, whom he has not met for five months due to the COVID-19 crisis, the country’s cricket board (PCB) said yesterday. Pakistan is scheduled to play three tests and as many Twenty20 Internationals in August-September in a bio-secure environment in England following the COVID-19 pandemic.A 29-member combined squad will depart on June 28 for Manchester, before travelling to Derbyshire for a 14-day quarantine period during which they will be allowed to train and practice as per the standard operating procedure for the series.Malik has been stuck in Pakistan while his wife, tennis player Sania Mirza, and one-year-old son Izhaan, have been in India due to the ban on international travel due to the pandemic. “Unlike the rest of us, Shoaib Malik has not seen his immediate family for nearly five months,” PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan said in a statement.“As travel restrictions are now slowly easing out and there is an opportunity for a family reunion, it is appropriate that at a human level we show compassion as part of our duty of care and respect Shoaib’s request.”The PCB said they have spoken to their counterparts, England and Wales Cricket Board, who have agreed to make an exception for Malik to enter the country on July 24. Former captain Malik, 38, retired from test cricket in 2015 and bowed out of the 50-over format last year after the World Cup in England. He has continued to play the shortest Twenty20 format for Pakistan.last_img read more
